Basic Seamanship
While zooming along across the water is an enjoyable way to enjoy boating, there are some basic Rules / Tips that should be followed.
- Boating Courtesy goes along way to ensuring a GREAT & SAFE day out on the water.
- Â ALWAYS BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS.
- Never assume you have the “Right of Way”, keeping a sharp lookout for other vessels is just safe boating.
- Never assume the other guy understands the * Rules of the Road*, or is proficient in maneuvering his vessel.
- Use slow speed when operating your boat in small or narrow winding waterways.
- Kayak’s, Canoes, and small skiffs swamp easily, reduce your speed and wake when boating around smaller vessels.
- Remember the overtaking vessel (passing vessel) has the duty to keep clear of the vessel being overtaken (passed).
- Sailboats under sail power alone, have the “Right of Way” over power-driven vessels.
- SAFE BOATING IS NO ACCIDENT.
